Accessory Dwelling Units (or "ADUs") are allowed and regulated by California state ADU law, which overrides local municipal codes to a large extent. However, local municipalities often continue to obstruct and prevent homeowners from building what is rightfully theirs - an ADU. Our firm has extensive experience with ADU law and knows what to do if the City refuses to allow your ADU: a Writ of Mandamus, which is an order from the Superior Court that compels the City to comply when they refuse or repeatedly throw roadblocks.
